How I completed this conceptual portrait

September 18, 2017

There's something magical that happens when you surround yourself with people who want to see you reach your full potential.
When they genuinely believe in you (sometimes even more than you might believe in yourself) you can realise a whole new world of possibilities that you may have thought was out of reach.
It's true that you don't need anyone else to reach your full potential, but it certainly helps when you're supported by a community who don't settle for you undermining yourself or your worth.

For this image, I had two models, Travers & Laura.  I wanted to give the illusion that Travers was a really solid support for Laura to reach the top of a challenging hill where only she could see the world that had unfolded for her.  For this to happen, I needed Travers to climb the sand dunes at different stages, and then help push Laura's foot to look like he was giving her some leverage.

I then needed Travers to be the wind for Laura's dress and hair, as I was too far away to run up with the self timer.

We had a lot of fun doing this shoot, and had some time left over at the end so Travers and Laura decided free-diving into the sand dunes would be a hoot.
